DANIEL PIPER GARDEN DESIGN and PENINSULA STONE MASONS
Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2011 Bronze Medal Winner
"Your Garden"
Being our first year involved with the Flower Show, we wanted to create and showcase a timeless design that everyone could relate to. A personal space that would be a home set within a rolling landscape as it would be in an urban back yard. We decided to focus on the use of recycled timber and stone to create our structures, balanced with a selection of hardy flowing shrubs and deciduous feature trees.
At the front of our exhibit, we created a viewing platform for the public to gain a better view and scene of connection. The raised boardwalk, build using Australian Cypress has been set in on edge, and fixed so it that twists and turns giving it a sense of depth and direction.
It leads you to a bold pergola constructed using recycled timber from the Barwon River Bridge, Ocean Grove. The pergola frames and unique Chaise build from dry laid Western Australia and Mornington Peninsula Lime Stone rubble. Individual Lime Stone rocks positioned as stepping stones through the rear of the design allow access to the Olive trees which have been trained as espliers along the back wall. One of the feature rocks has been hand crafted to form a birdbath and sits into the edge of the boardwalk at the front of the design. We selected plants that provided scale, and a combination of foliage colour and flowering varieties that compliments the timber and stone elements.

The Design Consultation service starts with an onsite meeting to develop an understanding for your Landscape project. Together with your ideas, we will discuss and plan out all elements such as paving, garden beds, irrigation etc. This forms the foundation for a Landscape Conceptual Design.
The meeting generally takes 60 to 90mins where notes and images will be recorded. It is also a time to discuss forecasted budgets which allows us to understand the expectations and limitations within the project. Following the meeting you will be sent a Design Brief outlining the stages and fee in producing the Design.
The fee for a Design Consultation for Metropolitan Melbourne is $220.00 inc gst and is payable at the meeting. This fee is redeemable upon acceptance of a Design Brief. See Design for further information of this service.
